• I’m deeply sorry about the downtime this week. I realize it’s important that I get to the root cause of this problem. In the meantime, I’m going to be increasing the size of Blot’s server and hope the additional resources patch up a potentially deeper issue.

  • Just added a new theme called Archive:

    ferox.blot.im

    • Designed for storing large image libraries
    • Has easy navigation between posts
    • Features a search bar with auto-completion

    Available now on your dashboard!

  • There was a brief outage for a few minutes around 3:35pm UTC today. Packets were not making their way to Blot’s server for some reason. They’re flowing again now.

  • The first edition of Blot’s newsletter will go out on the first day of Spring. It’ll include a summary of new features and templates, fixed bugs and future plans.

You can sign up now to receive the newsletter

  • Added a guide to creating a JSON feed to the developer documentation. Thanks to @amit and @jthingelstad for their help, and to @manton and @brentsimmons for writing the spec itself.

  • On February 1st, new customers will pay $30 a year to host a blog on Blot. If you are an existing customer, this will not affect you in any way.

As I rule of thumb, I’ve set the price of Blot at whatever I’d personally pay for it. When opened Blot to the public in 2014, I charged $12 a year. I increased the price to $20 a year in 2015 after some substantial improvements. A few years of full-time development since, I think Blot is worth $30 a year.

If there’s someone you’ve meant to tell about Blot, they’ll be able to sign up for $20 a year from now until February 1st.

  • Blot should now be operating normally again.

Blot’s disk ran out of storage space last night, causing all kinds of problems. I have freed up some space on the old disk. I am connecting a new, larger disk right now.

Again, sorry about this. I will add better monitoring.

  • Terribly sorry about the intermittent downtime last night. I’m aware of the issue now and working on deploying a fix.

(I was travelling to the UK for Christmas yesterday and so was offline for a while! Again, apologies.)

  • Just added a new theme called Portfolio

    • Designed for photography
    • Has a random post button
    • Works well on small screens

    Available now on your dashboard!

  • Today I added a new template function which steps around the issues micro.blog was having processing images in Blot’s RSS feeds. I have deployed the fix this on all of Blot’s included templates.

This means people who use micro.blog no longer need to disable Blot’s image caching feature, and can merrily use relative URLs to images in their blog posts.

People with custom templates can make the modification to their own template.

Please let me know if you have any questions, either on micro.blog or over email.
